JUDGEMENT!: The Green Hornet

Okay, I’ll be the first to admit when I’m wrong. I mean, you wont hear it often so you better copy this down because it’s a very rare occasion. Like rarer than a sober Lindsey Lohan sighting. I liked The Green Hornet. There. I said it. I actually liked this film a lot.

It was directed by Michael Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Be Kind Rewind, Block Party) and stars Seth Rogen (Knocked Up, 40 Year Old Virgin, Superbad) as The Green Hornet and Jay Chou (Curse of the Golden Flower, True Legend, Treasure Hunter) as Kato. The story is basically consistent fuck up Britt Reid aka The Green Hornet is a failure to his father due to his partying ways and wasted life. Kato aka uh…Kato, is the repairman/coffee maker.

JUDGEMENT!: The King's Speech

Just last night I watched The King’s Speech and goddamn I was impressed. Going into this I knew nothing about it except who was starring. Even now I’m not sure why I really wanted to see it. Yes, its being hyped as an amazing film by critics all over but that’s usually not enough to get me to see something. Hell, I still haven’t seen Up, Avatar, or Toy Story 3 and don’t have a real desire to. But for some reason I had to see this.

The girl at the box office (The Arclight Cinema) said that even though it’s a drama that there are plenty of laughs. I’m sure I raised my eyebrow when she said that. But that’s the thing. Even with dramas there has to be some light moments. I am almost done with reading this book Never Let me Go and it’s the most miserable shit ever and I am afraid to watch the film lest I hide all sharp objects in my house. You have to lighten the mood every once in a while.

Dante's Top 10 In Written Form! With Pictures!!!

In a year that seemed to start off rather week but finish ridiculously strong I kind of had to struggle to find ten films that I truly enjoyed. But try I did and this is what I came up with. These films range from action, suspense, drama, and animation. I don’t like just one style of film and neither should you. Let me know what you think.

10. Girl With Dragon Tattoo
Photobucket
Great film that had me sitting in the theater and just glued to the screen. There was no way for me to figure out how this movie would end and where it was headed. Ignore the sequels and the future remake and just watch this, the original.

Alex's Top 10 in Written Form! With Pictures!!!

And here we are again! Another year down and another slew of movies to comprehend and compare. Unlike the last few years, 2010 brought a cavalcade of competent cinema that was absolutely unprecedented. I was fully unprepared for the likes of the last few months and the intense entries into the Oscar season that began to give way as the year came to a close. Now, as always, I'm certain that this list will be viewed as juvenile and haphazard (story of my life) but these are MY top 10 movies of the year. I wish I could watch all of these entries over again to more properly gauge my level of enthusiasm and their prowess, however, I will stand by every one of these entries and will fight you to the death for any of them! (Though I will admit, I give major kudos to originality and ingenuity in form over traditional cinematic bravado) Let the ranking begin!

JUDGEMENT!: I Love You Phillip Morris

I Love You Phillip Morris is so good it's hard to remember what type of movie you are watching. That isn't some hyperbolic statement intended to garner curiosity or to make the author (moi) seem wiser than reality would hold true, one actually comes away from Phillip Morris in such awe of the story just told that it merits a reminder that what the audience just viewed was a comedy. A fabulous, fully-functioning comedy, but a comedy, nonetheless.

JUDGEMENT!: Black Swan

I got mind raped last night. Headed out to see Black Swan directed by Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler, The Fountain, Requiem For A Dream) and I only knew a couple things about this film. Lesbian shit, ballet, and crazy makeup. Doesn’t seem like much of a reason to see something but I love Portman and the film looked cool. I hated The Wrestler but loved The Fountain so I decided to give old Aronofsky another try.

The film stars Natalie Portman (The Professional, Brothers, V For Vendetta) as Nina Sayers, a ballet dancer who is following in her mothers (Barbara Hershey) footsteps. If you walked into this girls room you would think she was 9. Bunnies and pink crap everywhere. A new girl shows up to the school who doesn’t seem to give a fuck but dances great played by Mila Kunis (That 70’s Show, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Family Guy) as Lily. Vincent Cassel (Eastern Promises, Ocean’s 13, Brotherhood of the Wolf) stars as Thomas Leroy the guy running the Swan Lake play.

JUDGEMENT!: The Fighter

So me and my best friend went out to see The Fighter. See, the week I saw True Grit we had planned on seeing either The Fighter or Black Swan. We actually had tickets for Black Swan but the seating was all fuckered so we ended up passing on it. Tonight The Fighter was in the cards, and I’ll be damned if this isn’t one of the best films I have ever seen.

This film stars Mark Wahlberg (Four Brothers, The Departed, The Other Guys) and Christian Bale (The Dark Knight Returns, 3:10 To Yuma, American Psycho) as real life boxers and brothers Micky Ward and Dickey Eklund. While Wahlberg’s Micky is trying to build a career his brother Dickey attempts (badly) to get his career back. His greatest moment was knocking down “Sugar” Ray Leonard at the age of 21. His comeback is hindered by his repeated drug use and habitual fuckedry.
